Life With Brynne: The End of the Best Year, Kickin' off the New Year!
Well now that the best year of my life is over, I can only wonder what 2018 will bring! Our holiday season was just absolutely perfect. Is it normal that I cried while putting away all my Christmas decorations last week? I mean just a couple tears. It was just so magical. The best holiday season I could have ever asked for! Filled with fun activities and events. Most recently, we went to The Drake for High Tea! I highly recommend it. It is a great ladies day out! (We went to the one at Oakbrook, but my link is to the downtown one, which was really wonderful!)
One of my best friends and I hit up The Dearborn one night before NYE. It is always so fun to get together with her. We were college roomies. We laughed until we were crying, literally! Other tables were definitely staring at us. That could also be because we ordered about 15 menu items for just two people... no big deal.. totally normal! And the most embarrassing part is, we pretty much finished it all... and then ordered dessert!! This is a great spot for a date night or girls night! Food was great, ambiance was really nice, and its a good excuse to dress cute and have a cocktail! There is no valet, but they do validate parking in the garage that is just steps away. It is in the theater district. It would be great place to see a show and have some good food and drink! Must have: The Gnocci & Octopus, Parmesan Truffle Fries, and the Churro dessert... uh.....I need more! We plan to check it out for brunch too!
The week leading up to the new year was cold. When I say cold... I mean Arctic. Chicago is like that one crazy chick from college... Totally cool one day and a complete b*tch the next. We have had our heat blasting and I still find myself wearing 2 pairs of socks and stealing my husband's blankets at night! I went 3 days without leaving my house. There was also a day that Brynne and I stayed in our Jammies until we changed into a different set of Jammies! Haha
Breastfeeding and New Years Eve don't really mesh well. I was so torn this year. I wanted to go out and have fun, but I also wanted to be home with my baby at the start of the New Year. Besides, there is probably no chance in hell I would have made it past 10pm partying anyway. Let's be honest, if you have a young baby at home, your bed time is probably close to 9pm... And that's even pushin it!
I really wanted to go out. I wanted to dress up and enjoy the night... But my heart was at home with my girl. I also have resorted to limping around until I have my surgery... And that is no fun at all. Considering I am low on milk storage... that means every drop is liquid gold. There will be no pumping and dumping around here! I have only pump and dumped once... And I felt awful doing it. It's just easier not to drink or to just have one glass of wine and be done! Luckily, 1-2 glasses is all I need to feel excellent! I'm currently a cheap date!
We met our wonderful group of friends at Silom 12 for a nice little BYOB dinner. Not only was it delicious, it was very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place for a date night, girls night, or any group dinner.
We returned home to my parents watching the New Years countdown show, just in time for Britney! Followed by immediately bedtime. We decided to set an alarm at 11:57pm and share the moment with baby. We tiptoed to her room and just watched her peacefully snooze. Can you guess what happened next? Yes! I cried! Lol
New Years Day was spent at my moms house. She always has quite the spread. This year we had salad, lasagna, sausage and peppers, a delicious cheesey garlicky pull apart bread... Uh... Can we say hello 5lbs in one day? Not to mention... More cakes and cookies than one could eat in a week. Nonetheless, it was a great start to 2018... Followed by a flat tire... But luckily, my husband took care of that in the -8 degrees. I was going to let this be the indicator of my year ahead, but I chalked it up to my maniac driving. Ask my husband, he thinks I drive like a total psycho.
Bring it 2018!
