Life With Brynne: Big News!
Big news!!! No guys, I'm not pregnant! I know what you were thinking!
The news: We bought a house!! This is going to be a huuuuge project.
In 2014 we got married and bought a two flat on a double lot. It was a great buy and has proven to be a good investment. We were lucky that the wonderful tenants upstairs wanted to stay. My husband put work into it and made it really beautiful. As much as I love our living space, it just isn't where I want to live forever. It's near a busy street, it's fairly loud, and the neighborhood school is not quite there yet.
Two days after I found out I was pregnant with Brynne, I came home to a homeless man sitting on my stairs. He got angry that my sweet goldendoodle was barking at him from inside my car. He got up, and came towards me yelling and swearing. My phone was in my purse on the floor where I couldn't reach it without sudden movement. I was terrified. I locked my doors and sat there frozen in fear. Luckily my husband heard my dog going nuts, and he came out. By then, the guy had run off and I had already reached for my phone to call him. That was really the first time I was ready to move. I was pretty freaked out.
At about 35 weeks pregnant, I came home and got out of my car. I heard a guy say something inappropriate to me... I was super startled and turned to see a man with no pants peeing on my garbage can. He made a perverted comment. Well at least someone thought I looked good enormously pregnant. Hahaha jk. Yep, time to move!
The neighborhood is definitely changing and on the upswing. Overall, it really is a super nice area, and it is getting nicer and nicer every year. Really cute bars and restaurants are popping up within blocks, and the park has a great farmers market in the summer. It has definitely gotten better since we moved into the area, but I just want peace, quiet, and safety. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that my mom and sister are 2 blocks away!
Our new house takes me back to my childhood. It is in the neighborhood I grew up in. I had such a great childhood. I pretty much lived at our neighborhood park with my "pack" of friends. We literally traveled in groups of 10. It is where I have all my first memories. It is city living with a suburban feel being at the cusp of Chicago. The area is clean, quiet, has great schools, my family is still there, and even some of my childhood friends have returned with their babies! It is home. I can't wait to have my kids grow up here.
The house we bought definitely needs a little love. It is big and beautiful, but old.. Like Really old. I love everything about it though! We will be doing some cosmetic changes in the next couple months and our plan is to do an addition and more renovation in the summer and fall. So I will have to be patient and wait to make the changes I want. I am nervous and excited all at the same time! It won't be a dream house right away... But it will be perfect for us.
More to come! I have started picking out different colors and finishes for certain projects. Home and room design is one of my favorite things. Stay tuned for some before pics!
